Ignatius College Prep seeks applications for a full-time Director of Athletics.
Saint Ignatius College Prep is a Catholic, Jesuit, urban, co-educational,
college preparatory high school with 1,450 students in grades 9-12. Founded in
1869, the mission of the school is to prepare its diverse student body for a
life characterized by integrity, lifelong learning, and compassionate service
The Athletic Director reports to and
is directly responsible to the Principal.
He or She is responsible for the continual development and management of
the interscholastic athletic program.
Crucial to this position is the ability to cultivate, produce, and
articulate a philosophy and vision of how athletics complement and enhance the
basic mission of the school in the Catholic and Jesuit context and
tradition. This requires the ability to
plan and program for the short and long term. The AD must establish goals and
benchmarks to measure achievement against the school’s Strategic Plan. Saint Ignatius is looking for an experienced individual with
excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. The qualified candidate will preferably be a
practicing Roman Catholic with a State Professional Educator’s License (PEL) in
administration or a Master’s Degree.
Establishing school athletic program policies and ensuring
Administering all interscholastic policies and procedures and
working within the confines of the constitution and by-laws of the IHSA and all
conferences of which the school is a member.
Working with head coaches to develop and promote good
sportsmanship throughout the Saint Ignatius athletic community.
Recruiting, interviewing, supervising, and evaluating all assistant
athletic directors and head coaches.
Hiring assistant coaches.
Coordinating student-athlete perception surveys of coaches.
Preparing, submitting, analyzing, and overseeing a substantial
Planning, programming, and budgeting for the introduction,
expansion and/or elimination of sports programs. This includes formal submission of proposals
to obtain, expand, and modernize athletic facilities and equipment.
Collaborating with the Vice President for Mission to develop and
implement coaches’ formation and formation opportunities for student-athletes.
Collaborating with the Vice President for Development on
initiatives to benefit student-athletes, coaches, the Athletic Department, and
Working with the Director of Development and Communication to
ensure timely messaging of Athletic news and events.
Working with the Vice President for Mission in the branding of
uniforms and all athletic gear.
Ensuring head coaches properly supervise and evaluate assistant
Working with the admissions office and head coaches to develop and
implement public relations, recruiting programs, and grammar school camps to
attract student-athletes to the school.
Acting as ambassador of the school to the athletic community at
Collaborating with head coaches as they develop summer sports camp
programs that enhance the skills and abilities of Saint Ignatius student-athletes
and foster a positive image of the school to prospective student-athletes.
Serving as the Principal’s representative to the IHSA and local
and national organization.
Developing training and orientation programs for all coaches to
ensure their currency, competency, and teaching of principles and values that
correspond to the mission of the school.
Attending as many contests, meets, and events as possible and providing
supervision as necessary.
Working with club sports programs to ensure their involvement in
the athletic department follows the guidelines set forth for interscholastic
Supervising the Director of Intramurals, who is responsible for
providing athletic programs during the lunch periods for all students.
Supervising the Director of the Weight Room and Fitness Center.
Encouraging head coaches and providing assistance in recognizing
their programs and student-athletes both in and out of school.
Overseeing the athletic training room and supervising trainers
provided by an outside contractor.
Coordinating the use of off-site facilities.
Overseeing, with the assistant athletic directors, the scheduling
of athletic facilities.
Overseeing, with the assistant athletic directors, the practice
and competition schedules for all athletic programs.
Other duties, as assigned.
2019 or before. This is a demanding, fast-paced twelve-month position.
