Assistant Principal for Student Services

St. Xavier High School, Cincinnati, Ohio


The Assistant Principal is one of the educational leaders of the school as a member of the Principal’s team. He/she will organize, supervise, and evaluate comprehensive programs and services that support and encourage all students to live up to their academic, personal-social, and career development potential.

The Office of the Assistant Principal is a 12-month position that is a direct report to the Principal of St. Xavier High School.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Serve as acting Principal when the Principal and Assistant Principal for Academics are not in the building.
    • Serve as acting Dean of Students when the Dean is not in the building.
  • Serve as a member of the team of Principal and Assistant Principals to advance programs and address problems in light of the school mission.
    • Assist the Administrative Team with the evaluation and professional development of teachers.
    • Responsible for the application, selection and formation of senior leaders (i.e. Bomber Pilots, Navigators, Crew).
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal for Academics and the Dean of Faculty for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and programs of the House System.
    • Responsible as a point person for contact with freshmen parents after the enrollment of their sons.
    • Organize and oversee the administration of all summer school programs and approve the curricular and co-curricular summer school program offerings.
    • Organize, supervise and evaluate the student activities program.
    • Organize, supervise and evaluate the Homeroom System.
    • Organize, supervise and evaluate the co-curricular Fine Arts program.
    • Organize, supervise and evaluate the College Advising department.
    • Organize, supervise, and plan the annual commencement exercises.
    • Organize, supervise, and plan the Freshman Family Conferences, Junior Family Meetings and Senior Exit Interviews.
    • Organize, supervise, and plan student global programming.
    • Collaborate with the School Counseling department to design guidance programming.
    • Assist the principal with planning and implementation of all-school assemblies.
    • Collaborate with the Dean of Faculty on the construction and maintenance of the annual calendar.
    • Assist the principal in the recruiting and hiring of faculty and staff.
    • Meets with both internal and external constituencies and serves on various committees to foster unity of purpose, common understanding and teamwork; and to promote the mission and vision of the school.
    • Works collaboratively with the Office of Enrollment and serves as a primary member of the core admissions selection committee.
    • Works with the Dean of Students and Director of Security to plan and implement the school emergency management plan.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The Assistant Principal shall be a person who has a dynamic personality, is organized, well rounded, engaging, and who facilitates growth and collaboration inside and outside of the classroom.  Additionally, they will:

  • Provide evidence of an ability and commitment to furthering the Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity of the school.
    • Have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with an advanced degree in educational administration or a related field.
    • Show a demonstrated track record of success in teaching and/or leadership experience in a school setting.
    • Possess an Ohio Principal’s certificate or equivalent (must be earned within two years if not at date of hiring)
